Philips LED alternatives
for halogen lamps

ErP Directive: Halogen lamps ban

On 1st September 2018, the final stage of EU legislation prohibiting inefficient halogen lamps came into force. Mains-operated, non-directional halogen lamps no longer meet EU requirements. This means that they can no longer be manufactured or imported for resale in the EU. Nevertheless retailer are allowed to sell off existing stocks!

Though this is no cause for concern – Philips offers a comprehensive range of LED alternatives of various shapes, replacing the forbidden types.

The following halogen lamps are affected:
  • Halogen Classic with E14/E27 fitting in incandescent bulb, candle and globe form
  • Halogen Pin Base Lamps with EEL < B and/or lifetime < 2,000h
  • Halogen lamps with B15d/E27 base tube/tubular shape

Some types of halogen bulbs, eg. low-voltage reflector lamps in linear or capsule form, will continue to be available and may continue to be sold in Europe.
